  1. Direct substitution

    1. y = x + 3, 2x + y = 12:
    2. y = 3x, x + y = 8:
    3. y = 4x − 1, x + y = 9:
    4. y = 2x + 5, 3x + y = 20:
    5. y = 5 − x, 2x + y = 7:
    6. y = x − 4, 3xy = 16:
    7. x = 2y, x + 3y = 10:
    8. x = y + 1, 2x + y = 11:
    9. y = 3x − 2, 2x + y = 13:
    10. y = 6 − 2x, x + 2y = 7:
  2. Rearrange then substitute

    1. x + y = 9, 3x + 2y = 22:
    2. 2x + y = 10, 5x + 3y = 27:
    3. xy = 2, 4x + y = 23:
    4. 3xy = 4, x + 2y = 12:
    5. x + 2y = 11, 2x + 3y = 18:
    6. 4x + y = 17, 2x + 3y = 11:
  3. Check solutions

    1. y=2x−1, x+y=8; claimed x=3, y=5:
    2. y=x+4, 2x+y=13; claimed x=3, y=7:
